Over many years I've shared insights with troubled people, often spending many hours with those who were hurting. It took me a very long time to learn that there is all the difference in the world between the intellectual knowledge of beneficial principles - and the ability to apply them. I've seen people able to repeat to others all the insights I've shared with them - and yet be unable to apply those same insights to their own lives. I've also seen those same people, after years of struggling, instead begin to pray the insights as prayers. And I have then watched lives transformed - transformations that I can take not one scrap of credit for. If my words could have helped these people, those words would have done so years earlier. Prayer achieved what my words never could - and it was a delight to those people to discover for themselves the fact that God really does hear and answer prayer. At long last, I've learned a valuable lesson. There is definitely a place for sharing insights - by either the written or the spoken word. But words can only really have life when God works through them. Now I place no reliance whatsoever on the words themselves to help people - but rather I turn those insights into prayers - and leave it to God to do for others what I could never in a million years do for them. And so the Food For Thought e-prayer group came into being on Yahoo groups. The automatically generated daily emails cover one week each of praying for ourselves, for our families and friends, for troubled people (especially the young) and for church leaders These are my top prayers - prayers I'll still feel I need to pray if I live to be 100. There is a strict limit on how many words I can use in these automatically-generated emails. So, of necessity, the prayers are short. If you'd like to receive the automatically generated emails please join our group by clicking on the Yahoo icon below (you'll need to have a Yahoo email address in order to become a member of the group - though you can then have the emails sent to any of your email addresses). Alternately you can subscribe to the group (no need to have a Yahoo email address). There is a Yahoo subscribe option below. Both membership and the subscribe option are free By praying with us in response to the daily e-prayers may .you, and your family, be greatly blessed
Encouraging Quote: Short prayers are long enough. Not length but strength is desirable. A sense of need is a mighty teacher of brevity. If our prayers had less of the tail feathers of pride and more wing they would be all the better. Verbiage is to devotion as chaff to the wheat. Precious things lie in small compass, and all that is real prayer in many a long address might have been uttered in a short petition. When we can do nothing Jesus can do all things; let us enlist His powerful aid upon our side, and all will be well. (C.S. Spurgeon)
